Millie went into labor on October 17th at about 9:30. She chose her bed area to settle in and have them. We quickly moved our shop over there! She had her first one, the runt, and went in waves of 2. She had a good hour before she had the next set, but by 2:30 am she had 10 puppies! The order went, black boy, all 6 browns, and then 3 more black. At that point she settled down and seemed pretty tired. However, she kept panting like she was still laboring. After switching Dan out so I could get an hour of shuteye, I woke to find her still laboring. At that point, Dan ran her in to the vet. They did an X-ray and told us there were 2 more and sent her home to see if she could do it on her own for a few hours. Well those few hours came and went, and we were getting a little worried. Millie was acting fine, but it was not being successful. So, we ran her in after lunch. It had been about 12 hours since her last puppy was born and that is WAY too long. We didn't have much hope for those last 2. They tried to induce a stronger labor, and that was unsuccessful. So, they wheeled her back for a c-section. Turns out it was only one big puppy and it had passed away. The way it sat in her made it too hard to get it out. We were happy Millie was through and that she was on the recovery side. We sure worried about her while she was gone!!! She took about a day of needing a little help to get up and down stairs, but she was back to herself and doing really well after that. Her stitches healed great and she is now her happy self! So glad! Anyways, after all the drama of the delivery, we got to enjoy having these 10 puppies! It was fun to see Millie's instincts take in during delivery and in the care of these puppies. Levi and Zack stayed up till midnight (it was Fall Break) and saw the first 5 puppies come. They were so excited! We have had so much fun taking care of these little puppies. Makayla particularly is obsessed! They have grown so fast and before you know it they will be off to their own houses. By 2 weeks some started opening their eyes and staggering around. By 3 they all were! Their little barks are the cutest. They sure can make a mess of their box and are starting to get a little loud, but they are the cutest things! If only they would stay small we would keep them all! With some life changes coming, we told the kids we cannot keep one. It would have been fun though! Good thing the Johnson's and the Hegerhorst's are dying for a dog and now will get one! We will get to see those ones after they go:) Here are several pictures from their first 3 weeks, I have more I might add later from my camera but here are plenty for now!!!
