Since it has almost been a year since we moved here, and since it is only 11 minutes from our house, AND we finally had a free Saturday to find something to do we headed to Antelope Island. We spent a couple of hours driving and stopping at a few of the sites around the park.
First stop: The Visitors Center
You can see the 7 mile Causeway that leads out to the island.
We tasted the water and yes it tasted like salt. Not surprising since it is the Great SALT Lake! There are different percentages of salt in different parts of the island, and the easiest beach to get to is about 25%. So you float a lot easier and my skin pores were burning:) The boys however, LOVED swimming in it. They threw rocks for a good hour and sloshed around in it. Even with showering them off afterwords they still had salt remnants on their faces and in their hair!
There were tons of birds and we will make sure to bring our binoculars next time!
On the side of the road we encountered this guy. The boys love animals and we sat and watched him for awhile. We spotted a few more around but this one was the closest.
Bison View Point- they loved looking for the Bison.
White Rock Beach
We will definitely be back many more times. I love the many of fun outdoor activities in Utah. That was one of the things I missed the most when we lived in the middle of the barren desert with the nearest mountain 2 hours away!!
